A really simple joy is taking a nice photograph. If you can capture the true essence or beauty of a person, object or scene it is really quite rewarding. It’s especially important when you’re trying to capture something that is rare or are in a place that you are likely not to return to.

There are alot of tips, techniques, and tricks for taking better pictures, but there are three in particular that I have found that provide quick and amazing improvements to the photographs you take. By focusing on these helpful tips you will see a large improvement in the quality of pictures you share with your friends.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS TO BETTER PHOTOS

1. Check Your Light.

You need light to take the picture, without light you don't have a shot. There are varying qualities of light and choosing the best light available makes all the difference in the quality of your picture. Where possible, it is best to use natural light outside or when indoors, moving next to a window or a skylight. You can improve the look of your shots by shooting early in the morning or late in the evening. The light at these times of days is less intense and allows you to take advantage of long shadows adding dramatic effects. An overcast or slightly cloudy day can provide difussed light for softened shots without harsh shadows.

2. The Famous Rule Of Thirds.

This is a simple, basic rule of photography as well as art. It has been in practice for many years and really adds interest and balance to any picture. For this rule, imagine that your view finder has a grid pattern dividing your field of view into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, nine equal sections,3X3. This will resemble a tic-tac-toe board. With this grid in your mind's eye, place your subject along one of these lines or at a point at the intersection of these lines . Offsetting your main subject against an object in the background can make your pictures a little less awkward and bring your viewer into the landscape or body of the shot. Remember that these ideas are just guidelines for you to think about. You have to do your own experimentinmg.

3. Fill The Whole Frame.

This one sounds simple but it can be a challenge to get it right. Often with pictures, the closer you are to your subject the more impact you will have. Focusing the camera on too much background will detract from your foreground point of interest or what you really want to photograph. Taking pictures of your children will probably come across much better if you get down on their level, literally and fill the whole frame with their antics. This applies to landscape shots especially. Make suer that you fill the view finder with as much of one object as you can. You can leave a small portion of the long-shot distant hills in the background for size and distance reference effect.
